The norm serves as the basis of our existence. Therefore, deviations from the norm are often considered abnormal and inappropriate. Freaks, monsters and fetishes live off the norm. Not infrequently, they are seen as a threat to our individual and communal sense of self and are therefore stigmatized, punished, and criminalized. The beyond the norm is a gray area.

Although many people conform to the norm with discomfort, the norm also produces forms of resistance. The struggle for recognition is a struggle against the norm, in which new standards are set.

The exhibition "Ästhetik der Norm" explores different perspectives on norms against the background of their changeability. The positions in the exhibition offer aesthetic strategies for irritating norms, perception and valuation. Visitors can interactively experience the flexible boundaries of the norm.
