Esther Grünes Paintings are not part of a series, but take place in a complex fantasy world called "The World beyond good and evil" with a rich background story. In the "World" moral concepts are suspended, accidents determine existence and it is populated by fools, tricksters and creatures.
 
The world beyond good and evil is haunted by a plague of small creatures. They walk on all fours, have no consciousness and bear the name Boris. They do not take up any resources except space. Therefore, they are simply slain tersely, similar to Mosquitoes. However, they have a special function that no one knows about: they mirror unconscious problems of the humans around them. When you murder a Boris, it goes where the flame of a candle goes when you blow it out.
