Franziska Koch
PAINTER | GERMANY
Franziska Koch’s painting style features powerful lines and gestural immediacy, testing the range of the oil paint through the juxtaposition of translucent and impasto layers. Inspired by memories, emotions, imagined scenarios, and everyday observations, the work often explores interpersonal relationships. Themes of vulnerability, connection, alienation, queer sexuality, and identity pervade Koch’s paintings.
Franziska Koch (*1991 in Nuremberg) lives and works in Leipzig. At the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, she studied with Christoph Ruckhäberle, Franziska Holstein and Henriette Grahnert. Koch is anticipating her graduation in July 2024.
Her work has been shown in Berlin, Leipzig, Toulouse and Athens, amongst others. Koch has received an artist residency at Jardin Rouge, Marrakech, Morocco (2025), a scholarship of the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts Salzburg (2023) and an artist residency at Gutshof Biesenthal, Culterim Gallery (2023).
